With a recent deluge of international travelers to Japan and plenty more aspirants, it may be no surprise that the Oxford English Dictionary (OED) has once more inducted a group of Japanese words into the English lexicon — less than two years after 23 entries from Japanese, ranging from “kintsugi” (a technique for mending broken pottery with melted gold) to “yakiniku” (grilled meat), were incorporated.
While the 2024 set was predominantly gastronomic in nature, the latest list of 11 terms is somewhat scattershot and bound to raise some eyebrows.
