The decision comes due to a crew member’s medical issue, and will mark the first time any astronaut has to make an early return for health reasons.
While the H3 was able to lift off from the Tanegashima Space Center in Kagoshima Prefecture at 10:51 a.m., the second-stage rocket engine did not start properly and stopped burning earlier than scheduled.

JAXA fails in third attempt to put Michibiki No. 5 satellite into orbit
The H3 rocket that carried the satellite was able to lift off, but its second-stage rocket engine did not start properly and stopped burning prematurely.
The Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency on Wednesday canceled the launch of its eighth H3 rocket and said that at this point, it is not possible to say when it will be rescheduled.
